Weekend Happy Fun Times

July 16, 2010 in Concerts, News by Jamie

Just got back from Exchange Place Plaza for another Brown Bag Concert Series with today’s featured artist, David Williams. The free, all-ages concerts take place Mon-Fri through the summer and are a great way to catch local bands without losing sleep from a late bar show. Speaking of bar shows, though, there’s a great one at Urban Lounge tonight: Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti and opener Quintron & Miss Pussycat.

Also tonight, Rogue Wave plays In the Venue and over at The State Room you can support a good cause with Cub Country, Joel Brown and Shannon Whitworth who will headline the Spy Hop benefit concert. Before you hit the live-music circuit, head over to East Broadway for the SLC Gallery and Fashion Stroll. Be sure to stop into Slowtrain to wish the independent record store a happy 4th birthday. Slowtrain will be celebrating another year on the downtown block with three days of fun-filled activities. Click here for details.

Tomorrow, join us for Rootsapalooza at Pat’s BBQ. Robert Nelson, host of Smile Jamaica, will be emceeing the event which is reason enough to come down! Other reasons include performances by Natural Roots, James Shook, Samba Fogo and dub-step breaks by the Roots Rawka, plus all-you-can-eat Jamaican jerk BBQ. Oh, and did we mention the event is a fund-raiser for the station? Be a part of the KRCL community and help sustain the station while having a damn good time!

Before Rootapalooza, swing by the Downtown Farmers Market for a free performance by the Marie Bradshaw Band starting at 11 a.m. at Pioneer Park.

On Sunday, The Devil Whale will perform a special pre-release show for their forthcoming LPĀ  due out this fall on Slowtrain Records. A ticket secures you a copy of the album on vinyl. Details here.

Also Sunday, The Mynabirds play Urban Lounge with openers Calico (back together for one night only) and La Farsa.
