The Excommunication of Kate Kelly

June 27, 2014 in RadioActive by KrclAdmin

by Troy Williams

She is the Mormon woman that people all over the world are talking about. Kate Kelly, the co-founder of  Ordain Women, was notified last week of her excommunication from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her sin was leading a movement to encourage female ordination in the Mormon priesthood. Kelly joins us to discuss her trial, the diverse reactions from Church members and what this all means for the future of women in the LDS faith.

A newly amended Joint Operating Agreement (JOA) between the Deseret News and the New York hedge fund that owns the Salt Lake Tribune will redistribute print profits in a manner that will severely imperil the future of the Tribune.  Nick welcomes former Tribune journalists Joan O’Brien and Holly Mullen to lay out the history of the JOA, the current arrangement and the hope of bringing the Tribune under local ownership. The history of the JOA can be read at The Utah Newspaper Project. You can also sign a petition to the Department of Justice at Save The Tribune.
