Album of the Day – 03.05.14: The Smiths

Thirty years after their first release, The Smiths, we celebrate one of the most iconic groups in music history. Considered by Simon Godard as “the voice of the 80′s.” The Smiths are a cult favorite, and a group that will never be forgotten.

The songwriting relationship between Morrissey and Maar brought The Smiths together in 1982. They released their debut album, The Smiths, in 1984. Groups such as Oasis and Blur have been heavily influenced by Morrissey and books such as How Soon Is Never? and Girlfriend in a Coma were inspired by The Smiths.

How do you pick just one favorite Smiths song?!
We’ll be playing our favorites throughout the day, tune in at 6:40 a.m., 8:40 a.m., 12:40 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. to hear a few of them!
