JOB TITLE: ACCOUNTING MANAGER

STATUS: PART TIME 20 HOURS A WEEK

 POSITION PURPOSE –

The KRCL Accounting Manager provides direction and leadership for the station’s business operations. The Accounting Manager oversees the station’s accounting practices, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of its financial reports. He or she ensures a system of strong internal controls and maintains fiscal soundness. The Accounting Manager assists with the annual external audit, annual budget and the preparation of information for outside funders.

 ACCOUNTING PRACTICES

  1. Oversee the daily functions of accounting and business operations, ensuring that legal and audit requirements are met and that best practices and maximum efficiency are obtained.

  2. Handles all Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll functions.

  3. Handles all financial duties related to underwriting receivables including all reporting, deposits and reconciliation.

  4. Assists in the prompt completion of the station’s annual independent audit and the preparation of financial statements.

  5. In conjunction with General Manager provides leadership to the annual budget process including: the formulation of the budget.

  6. Implements appropriate systems and internal controls to adequately safeguard KRCL’s financial resources and to provide a solid basis for accurately reporting financial data.

  7. Prepares monthly financial reports the annual report, and other external financial reports.

  8. Oversees the month-end and year-end closings and the preparation of statements and reports Analyzes monthly operating results against budget.

  9. Ensures compliance with all required federal, state and local tax and financial disclosure documents, including 990 and all CPB reporting.

  10. Participates in KRCL’s management team providing insight and feedback on critical issues affecting the station.

  11. Meets or exceeds agreed upon competencies associated with the position and functions as a positive, supportive member of the staff team.

Performs other related duties as required by the General Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or equivalent.

  • Three or more years of related experience as a Senior Financial Manager, Controller or a Manager in a related field.

  • Skills and experience in the following areas: Accounting/Auditing, Financial Reporting, Budget Development/Management, Cash Management, Cost Analysis/Controls.

  • Accounting experience in a nonprofit organization, broadcast experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of, and expertise with, computerized accounting systems and standard business software, Blackbaud and QuickBooks preferred.

EFFECT ON END RESULTS:

 This position carries accountability for the efficient and effective operations of the station as a business enterprise. The incumbent must insure accurate and timely financial reports on the organization and efficient operation of the Accounting Department. 

The effectiveness of this position will be measured by:

  • Timely and accurate financial statements.

  • Timely and accurate processing of payroll and related tax reporting.

  • Timely and accurate annual 990 and CPB reporting.

  • Accounts Payable function that insures timely and accurate payments to vendors.

  • Accounts Receivable function that insures accountability for all invoicing and cash receipts.

 The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand for long periods and walk distances; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
