KRCL – The Next Evolution
Dear KRCL Listener,
KRCL is evolving. We're taking the sound and personality of the great station that we all love and making it just a little bit better. One unfortunate reality of these changes – we're going to have to say goodbye to some of the people and programs that we all love and respect.
For 28 years, I have been part of KRCL and I have been the General Manager since 1999. KRCL is dear to my heart, as it is to you, the staff, board and volunteers of the station. Making change is difficult. KRCL is a community radio station and in order to provide service we should be increasing our listenership as the population increases. If we do not increase the listenership we are not making the most of a valuable resource – our radio license – and we risk losing significant support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
I am personally grateful to all of the volunteers who have donated not only hundreds of thousands of hours, but their energy and creativity. The volunteers give a part of themselves every time they are on the radio, help at an event, work at the office, and donate time and money. I honor and value their commitment.
Through the evolution some things will not change. Community service still means great music, along with public service announcements, the community calendar and promoting local events. KRCL will continue to be progressive, commercial-free, challenging and invigorating. We are committed to being Utah's diverse, independent, and alternative voice.
KRCL is and will continue to be Utah's non-profit Community Radio Station.
My goal and the goal of all associated with KRCL is to make KRCL even a greater part of the community so that KRCL's service to the community grows and becomes more meaningful.
KRCL will continue to be programmed primarily by on-air volunteer hosts. Even though there will no longer be volunteer programmers from 6am to 6pm during the week, volunteers will remain a critical part of the radio, KRCL events and the KRCL community.
The Wasatch Front population has grown by nearly one-half million in the past ten years, but KRCL has not grown with it --- only 1.4% of people using radio in the Wasatch Front listen to KRCL. Our goal is to reach more listeners who want to be challenged, experimental, and independent, and invite them to be part of the KRCL Community.
Please join me in working to make a great radio station even better.

Thank you for listening.
