Make A Wish Foundation’s Rubber Ducky Derby

For the last 25 years, the Make a Wish Foundation has been hosting the Rubber Ducky Derby, a fun event where the community can come together to raise funds for the organization – which grants wishes to local children dealing with a life threatening medical condition. Savannah and Cesar, two children who have had their wishes granted talk about the power of the experience. The Rubber Ducky Derby is August 10th. More information: http://utah.wish.org/

Granary Row

One of the first episodes of The Beehiv featured the community developers at the Granary District and the high hopes they had to revive their cute, industrial corner of the city. Who would have imagined that less than a year later, they would be the hosts of Salt Lake’s hippest weekend block party – Granary Row. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night until October – a section of 7th south comes to life with food, music, and microshops housed in the 20 ft. shipping containers that decorate the street.

Solar Day

Solar Day, on July 27th,  is an opportunity for the community to learn about the mechanics and benefits of increasing usage of solar power. Despite the state’s problems with pollution, Utah is still one of the highest coal-burning states, and a switch to renewable solar energies could help address the winter smog and other problems.

Arbor Day

Arbor Day is a national celebration that was started to encourage care and conservation of our nation’s trees. As the state’s official arboretum, Red Butte Garden will host tours, information sessions, and other activities to commemorate the day.
