Although Salt Lake City doesn’t yet have a strong boxing culture, the introduction of this youth enrichment program might be the beginning of a tradition. Promise South Salt Lake – an initiative to invigorate that community has made promises for the success and well-being of local children, and the PAL boxing program provides structure, discipline, and encouragement for those who need it most.

Leigh VandenAkker is a local teacher who is passionate about teaching students how to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and see the world through a global framework. As Utah’s 2012 Teacher of the Year and a recently named Pearson Foundation Global Learning Fellow, she is also committed to continuing to learn herself.

KRCL is proud to partner with MusicGarage.org for our 2013 Summer Community Drive. MusicGarage.org is an enrichment program that trains teens to be good bandmates, as well as good musicians. Participants are able to choose the songs they learn, and get the guidance they need to learn and play them – but the program puts emphasis on the need to compromise and prepare for their many performances they hold around the state.

Twenty years ago, community leaders in Ogden decided to develop a dilapidated section of the Ogden River valley by constructing a series of parks – including the Ogden Eccles Dinosaur. Since then, the site has been devoted to educating, entertaining, and inspiring visitors with skeletons, sculpture models, and animatronic dinosaurs.
