Urban Farm Report: Meet the Farmers' Markets in your Neighborhood

Utah is home to nearly 70 farmers' markets. Just about any day of the week, including Sundays, you can find a market or a farm stand during the summer. RadioACTive checks in with a couple tonight.

  • SUNDAYS: 9th West Farmers Market | 10A- 3P through mid-October @ Jordan Park, 1060 S 900 W, SLC. Located near the International Peace Gardens on Salt Lake City’s west side. Easy to locate, on 900 West, along the north drive of the park. This year will be the market's 20th and final season! Mel Schertz fills us in.

  • FRIDAYS: Millcreek Farmers' Market Opens Tonight | 5-9 PM through Oct 30 at Millcreek Common, 1330 E Chambers Ave, Millcreek. Market Manager Lacy Gill checks in with a few of the market's farmers.

  • MON-SAT: Peach & Bee Farm Stand | Summer farm stand locations open through Oct 1 @ 12482 Rosecrest Road, Herriman, and 3476 Pony Express Pkwy, Eagle Mountain. Owner Sarah McKay chimes in and, guess what? She's got Utah peaches!

Did you know that you can use your SNAP EBT benefits at more than 20 farmers markets and farm stands across the state of Utah? To learn how it works and find a participating market, click here.

BONUS: Lara's Rural Farm Report

Down in Sanpete County, Matt Goble of Dry Bottom Farms has had to cut the number of sheep he raises due to the drought. In fact, just a week ago on Facebook, he posted: "Gotta get all the growth on the feed you can in years like this. We are out of irrigation water, and fully reliant on just the precipitation. Hopefully in the next 60 days we see some rain to help bring it back for fall." Lara reached him in his fields via Zoom earlier today to find out how he balances the demands of a working farm and his duties as a professor of farm and ranch management at Snow College.
