April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Tribal coalition launches new Native Helpline. Plus, Bitter Lemon at Plan-B, and Bedroom Poetry at Mestizo Arts.

Bianca Velasquez of Mestizo Arts and artist Ashley M. Bautista on the latter's new art installation, Mestizo Arts Presents: Bedroom Poetry, which opens Saturday.

  • April 13: Mestizo Arts Presents: Bedroom Poetry Opening Reception, 6:00-10:00 p.m. at Mestizo Institute of Culture and Arts, 95 S. Rio Grande St., SLC. "Bedroom Poetry is an installation-based exhibit representing the different aspects of Ashley M Bautista as a first-generation student, a woman, a person of color, a child of immigrants and an artist. Artist talk at 7:00 p.m."

Bitter Lemon with playwright Melissa Leilani Larson and Plan-B Theatre’s Jerry Rapier. 

  • April 11-28: Plan-B Theatre presents Bitter Lemon, a (Sort Of) World Premiere by Melissa Leilanie Larson at Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, 138 W. Broadway, SLC. "Finlay Macbeth has done Lady Helen Macduff a terrible wrong. Now they are trapped, alone together, in a purgatorial waiting room. What if the only escape is forgiving the unforgivable? This riff on Shakespeare’s 'Macbeth' is a life-after-death journey through the strange, the empty, and everything in-between. Run time: 60 minutes, no intermission. No Late Seating. Recommended for ages 12 and up. No babes-in-arms. All patrons require a ticket regardless of age."
