Making friends one bike ride at a time with Utah Global Diplomacy's Felecia Maxfield-Barrett. Plus, the poets and musicians of Salt Lake Speaks and Beats, happening this Friday and Saturday at Eccles Theater.

  • Cool Zones across Salt Lake County are open through October 15. "Salt Lake County (SLCo) Aging & Adult Services, in partnership with The County Library, SLCo Parks & Recreation, and The City Library, are areas in SL County and SLC facilities where members of the public can escape the summer heat, hydrate, and learn about available programs.   • Salt Lake Film Society 2nd Annual Summer Showdown, where films compete each weekend to be crowned the Champion of Summer. This Friday and Saturday: Xanadu (FRI) and Troll 2 (SAT).

The poets and musicians of Salt Lake Speaks & Beats, a free 2-day celebration of local artists happening this Friday and Saturday evenings at Eccles Theater.   • July 7: Salt Lake Speaks, a Slam Poetry Exhibition, 7:00-10:00 p.m. at Eccles Theater Grand Lobby, 131 S. Main St., SLC. Three hours of soul-stirring spoken word artistry from 10 local poets. Come to be wowed and leave breathless! For the poet lineup, click here

  • July 8: Salt Lake Beats, with live and local indie bands, 6:30-10:00 p.m. on McCarthey Plaza behind Eccles Theater. An evening of the best local music around, featuring Cardinal Bloom, The Painted Roses, Lane & the Chain, Sunhills, and DJ Skratchmo.   • July 21: Utah Global Leaders Coffee Hour, 9:00 a.m. at Woodbine Food Hall, 545 W. 700 S., SLC. Event by Utah Global Diplomacy: "MEET - MENTOR - MOBILIZE. This free and caffeinated monthly gathering provides a supportive, inclusive space for nonprofit leaders to connect, work through business and nonprofit challenges, and identify opportunities. FREE

  • December 2: Utah Global Diplomacy's Annual Vivaldi by Candelight, 8:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 12 C. St., SLC. "Step into a musical time machine with us as we present a captivating journey through the ages in our Vivaldi by Candlelight concert! While the Baroque era is often said to have ended in the 1750s, tonight we challenge that notion. Prepare to be amazed as we explore the enduring legacy of Baroque music well into the 19th and 20th centuries, as inspired by dance forms from centuries past.
