A Talanoa edition of RadioACTive: Talking story with Fijian designer Epeli Tuibeqa. Rya Tua about her experience in modeling in a world where skinny rules and Pasifika participation is very limited. And fellow model Rae Pito about her work in modeling, sustaining good mental health, and what we can do to destigmatize mental health.

Fijiian designer Epeli Tuibeqa, who will show his work in the Utah Pacific Fashion Show on Saturday, July 29. For tickets, click here

Model Rya Tua shared her experiences as a Pasifika woman in the modeling industry and as an advocate for body positivity. She'll walk for designer Regan Ku’ulei in the Utah Pacific Fashion Show.

Rae Pito, founder of Polys and Mental Health, discussed the Pasifika experience in mental health in Utah. She also started Salai Masina to coach Pasifika women in the modeling industry.

Talks leadership, members, and others in the community as we gather to prepare and share food with our unhoused community members who live in and around Fairmont Park. We'll provide the meat and you bring the sides! Meet us at the north side parking lot. Grilling starts at 10 am and we'll start eating around noon. All are invited to attend and share space and some good eats with us. Come on down! Everyone's welcome. Bring the kids, bring the pets. Let's break bread and spend time with our unsheltered relatives. We'll see you soon!" Side dish contributions are welcomed. 

  • July 29: Utah Pacific Fashion Show, 6:30 p.m. in the Grand Building at the Utah State Fairpark, 155 N. 1000 W., SLC. "Showcasing the best of the Pacific & Oceania. Come witness history in the making as we bring together fashion designers from all over the Pacific to show nothing but the best!"   • Aug. 5: 11th Annual Utah Pacific Island Heritage Month Kick-Off, 5:00-10:00 p.m. at Lodestone Park, 6252 W. 6200 S., Kearns. A one-day, family-friendly community celebration to kick off Utah Pacific Island Heritage Month. FREE. For vendor registration, click here
