"We know there are plenty of local plant sales this time of year so why shop WCG's Spring Plant Sale? Our sale features more than 45,000 food-growing plants raised from seed by participants of our Job Training Program serving women facing homelessness. These seedlings are grown with the utmost care at our certified organic Green Phoenix Farm. In other words, when you shop our Spring Plant Sale, you'll gift your garden with healthy plant starts while also helping us work toward our vision of a community where everyone has access to healthy, local food."

  • Red Butte Garden Spring Plant Sale & Fundraiser, 9a-3p at 2188 Red Butte Canyon Rd., SLC. Open to the public. Please park and enter through the north-facing Amphitheatre gates. "The Garden offers an impressive selection of herbs, specialty annuals, sun and shade perennials, ornamental grasses, roses, vines, shrubs, conifers, and trees. We have the best selection of heirloom vegetables, native, and water-wise plants you'll find in one location. Find plants for any situation, including bee-friendly and high-altitude plants. Most of the plants are grown by local nurseries and many of the vegetables are grown here in our own greenhouses. Look for our large selection of beautifully potted succulents and hanging flower baskets created by Red Butte Garden staff and volunteers. We also offer a variety of organic fertilizers, as well as coco fiber for increased soil water retention. Garden staff and volunteers on hand to answer your plant and gardening questions. There are a limited number of shopping carts available, so we encourage you to bring your own cart or wagon if you have one. We’ll provide cardboard trays for carrying your plants home. Hand and cart sanitizer stations near the entrance gate."

Once everyone has arrived, we'll begin with a brief safety talk and planting demonstration. Then, we'll split into small groups and get planting! We'll bring the trees, tools, soil amendments, and expertise to guide you throughout the planting process. We ask that you wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, sun protection, and enough layers to plant comfortably in the day's weather. We also recommend bringing a reusable water bottle to fill at our water station. So we know to expect you, please fill out our volunteer waiverFor more details or to register, click here."

  • Black History Collective Event, 12:30-4:00 p.m. at Trinity AME Church, 239 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., SLC. "Historic Trinity A. M. E. Church is one of the hosts of the joint effort of community stakeholders, including Sema Hadithi African American Heritage and Culture, Utah Black Chamber, Utah Historical Society, and the Museum of Utah, to open in 2026 in time for the nation's birthday, as well as other community partners, universities, and public historians. Sema Hadithi chose Trinity A. M. E. Church for the Salt Lake County event because of its history as the first African American Church created in Utah. The congregation was established before Utah received statehood and has continuously operated since. The May 11th event at Trinity A. M. E. will introduce community members who would like to learn how to participate in the historic effort to collect Black and BIPOC histories to the different groups that set up to collect artifacts and family histories, scan documents and photographs, and record oral histories. The event invites members of the community to contribute to collecting hidden stories of the past and providing knowledge of the present to inform the future. Outreach and collection activities like this have occurred at Hill Aerospace Museum and other locations. They will continue throughout the next 18 to 24 months."
