Get More Local, More Vocal with Tonight's Guests

RadioACTive returns January 5 with more grassroots activists, community builders, punk rock farmers, and DIY makers and musicians. Tonight, some of our favorite 2025 conversations from the agrihood and homegrown music:

Strange Force by CHAC XOL

  • Recorded live in The Big Room @ KRCL on April 4, 2025
  • CHAC XOL: "A Mexican-American artist in search of his cosmic folk & Aztec Blues." First single OUT NOW.

#ManyCulturesOneSky with Skywatcher Leo T

Veteran journalist Skywatcher Leo T shares his love of the night sky, space news, and cultural stories of the stars. To share your star stories or ask questions, follow SkyWatcher T on Facebook. Fresh tonight: Goddard Space Library to close, Mars Rover Curiosity photos, and Orbital book pick.

  • Leo's Night Skywatch: "Earth's Moon has some prominent companions tonight. It's flanked by the brilliant planet Jupiter and the star Pollux, the brighter "twin" of Gemini. Castor, the other twin, is to the upper left of the Moon."

Best of Aldine's Urban Farm Report: From the Ground Up (Dec. 12, 2025)

One of the hometown heroes in the agrihood is Symbria Patterson, founder of Red Acre Center. The nonprofit voice for small farmers, artisan producers and consumers in Utah will mark its 10th Annual Utah Farm & Food Conference, From the Ground Up — Jan. 15-17 — at Heritage Theater and Festival Hall, Cedar City. For lineup and tickets, click here

Conference keynote speaker Dr. Mollie Engelhart, a former Los Angeles–based vegan restaurateur turned regenerative-farm advocate, whose journey has taken her from city kitchens to working the land and raising livestock on Sovereignty Ranch in Bandera, Texas.

  • In Debunked by Nature, Engelhart shares how her hands-on experience with soil, animals, motherhood, and land exposed the lies she was living — and why what nature teaches us is radically different from what modern culture sells us.

Lonely Lovin' by The Alpines

  • Recorded live in The Big Room @ KRCL on Oct. 24, 2025
  • The Alpines: "An indie rock band from Salt Lake City, blending shoegaze textures, synth undertones, and raw guitars into something distinctly their own. Fronted by Bri’s emotive vocals and Danny’s atmospheric guitar work, their music moves between intimacy and chaos."

Best of Aldine's Urban Farm Report: Festivus in the Agrihood (Dec. 19, 2025)

Aldine, KRCL's Punk Rock Farmer, brings some of his favorites to the mic tonight as we celebrate the ups and downs of the agrihood, with dreams of seeds dancing in our heads. Guests:

I Call All My Homies Babygirl by Mopsy

  • Recorded live in The Big Room @ KRCL on May 23, 2025
  • Mopsy: "A garage rock band from SLC."
