Nick @ 6 Spotlight: Salt Lake Harm Reduction Project

With the stroke of a pen last month, President Trump made known his opposition to harm reduction. In EO 14321, Ending Crime and Disorder on America's Streets,  he called harm reduction programs "efforts that only facilitate illegal drug use and its attendant harm." In SLC, Salt Lake Harm Reduction Project runs a Syringe Exchange Program offering safe disposal and education, as well as COVID resources, at no cost. RadioACTive talks with the nonprofit's executive director, Mackenzie Bray, and communications director Becca Green.

  • Aug. 31: 2025 International Overdose Awareness Day | 7 AM @ Utah State Capitol, 355 N. State St., SLC. Event by USARA - Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness: "PLEASE NOTE: We're doing the event in Salt Lake in the morning this year to kick off all of the events happening across the state. Please bring photos of your loved one for the memorial. This International Overdose Awareness Day, we come together as one big family to take action on overdose. The overdose crisis doesn’t just shatter our families; it fractures our communities. This August 31, we move beyond awareness. We organize, we show up, and we take action. Because no one should carry this grief alone. Every story shared, every voice raised, and every step we take brings us closer to ending overdose."

We Ride at Dawn Vol 2: Order Up!

Journalist Enrique Limón on immigration issues in our community, including folks who fall through the cracks despite good intentions. Plus, a way you can help:

  • Aug. 31: Order Up! | 11-4 PM @ Square Kitchen, 751 W 800 S, SLC. A pop-up offering a grab-and-go burger for purchase, inspired by the menu of one of the restaurants affected by the fires on Main Street.

    • “At Square Kitchen, food dreams take root. Today, we honor that spirit by paying it forward — standing with the back-of-house workers who lost their jobs and safety net in the wake of the downtown fires,” Ana Valdemoros, event organizer and Square Kitchen co-founder, said. “This is community helping community, coming together to lift each other up when it’s needed most.”

    • The community at large is invited to attend and support those dedicated staffers left in a precarious situation following the blaze.
