What's Hectic Hobo sound like? "Americana folk rock n’ roll band. Hundreds of shows, six albums, two European tours, one accordion." They are our featured band for 801 Day on Punk Rock Farmer Friday, and they were the first band to be live-streamed from the Big Room here at KRCL. Collect and drop donations of pens, pencils, erasers, paper, notebooks, glue sticks, folders, art supplies, calculators, and book bags at Uprock, 1594 S State St, SLC, by August 8th.

  • Aug. 8: The Market Gardener Workshop at Gracie's Farm, feat. JM Fortier | 1-5 PM | 95 W 2100 S, Wanship. Lynsey Gammon, Farm Director of Gracie's Farm at Blue Sky in Wanship, talks with Aldine about a special workshop coming up next weekend with JM Fortier, a farmer, an educator, and an eco-entrepreneur. 

Al's Urban Farm Report: Bug Fest 2025 @ NHMU

Christy Bills, aka The Bug Lady, brings in specimens in advance of next weekend's events at the Natural History Museum of Utah. Bills is the museum's entomology collections manager: "Our entomology collection belongs to the people of Utah and benefits researchers worldwide," says Bills. “It is very exciting for me and other scientists to bring out remarkable specimens from the collection to share with Utahns face-to-face."

  • Aug. 8-10: From Pollinators to Predators: BugFest Returns to NHMU, 301 Wakara Way, SLC. "A BIG celebration of Utah’s tiniest residents. The museum will be buzzing with fun as visitors explore Utah’s incredible insects and the plants they pollinate through expert-led workshops, un-bee-lievable specimen displays, hands-on activities, and a tasty Bug Bar. Bug lovers of all ages are sure to discover a hive of excitement. This year's festival will shine the spotlight on one of the insect world’s top predators: the praying mantis. With lightning-fast reflexes, raptorial front legs, and a broad diet of other insects, guests can discover more about these apex predators commonly found in backyards throughout Utah."
