The Uncomfortable Truth’s Civil Rights Movement Series, featuring Ruby Bridges

RadioACTive is celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy this week by presenting select episodes of The Uncomfortable Truth Podcast and its Civil Rights Movement Series. Tonight: Ruby Bridges.

She advanced the cause of human rights at the age of 6 when she became the first black student to integrate into a segregated elementary school in New Orleans, Louisiana. Heralded as an American hero Ruby's bravery helped to pave the way in the American South as the now-iconic images of her being escorted by law enforcement in order to attend school gave the country a wake-up call and framed the civil rights movement as a moral issue. Bridges now work to ensure that all children get an opportunity to achieve their dreams with equal opportunities in education, through the Ruby Bridges Foundation that she established in 1999
