Voices of Utah: Local Arts & Culture

RadioACTive continues its collaboration with rising journalists of the University of Utah and Amplify Utah. This semester, Voices of Utah students are exploring and reporting on arts and culture in the Beehive State. Tonight:

  • Reporter Ashley West on Estephani Cerros, an actress, dancer, professional sucia, and a member of @hottakeburlesque

  • Reporter Laney Hansen on 40 years of Radio From Hell, with comments from hosts Bill Allred and Gina Barberi and life-long fan Jessica Kidman.

  • Reporter Georgia Metcalf and Anna Wright discuss her experience as an artist of faith and depicting nuanced experiences within Mormonism

    • May 7: Apos Book Launch, a New Graphic Novel About Missionaries by Anna Wright | 5:30-8:30 PM @ The Compass Gallery, 250 W Center St., Suite 101, Provo. This book explores the complexity inherent to an LDS mission experience, with the hope of fostering discussion, understanding and healing within the wide spectrum of Mormonism. Join the author for a short reading, Q&A session, and special art exhibition featuring the original show and behind-the-scenes work of Apos. Books will be available for purchase. Signing to follow.


Love Cancels Debt

While more and more folks turn to GoFundMe campaigns to pay down medical bills, Love Cancels Debt is buying it up for pennies on the dollar. Sherri Vance, who started the LCD campaign, tells us why she took up the challenge to raise $20,000 by May 15 for Undue Medical Debt. With your tax-deductible donations, UMD will be able to erase more than $4 million in medical debt for northern Utah families. 

  • HOW IT WORKS: "Working with the national nonprofit Undue Medical Debt, we can cancel medical debt for Utah families at pennies on the dollar! This nonprofit buys debt on the same marketplace where the debt collectors buy it, and then cancels the debt, relieving this burden for Utah families." To learn more or donate, click here.
