Mother's Day Dinner for Migrant Mothers Invitation, Historic West High Debaters, Poet Lisa Bickmore, Healing Power of Storytelling with The Bee SLC's Giuliana Serena and Storyteller Kevin Kling

  • Amy Dominguez of Unidad Inmigrante, which invites you to A Mother's Day for Migrant Mothers: Community Dinner Kickoff, Sunday, May 6, 6:00-9:00 p.m. at First Unitarian Church of Salt Lake City, 569 S. 1300 E., SLC. CLICK HERE for tickets and “voucher” info.

  • Kiyan Banuri, Kenji Aoki and Ramis Banuri of the West High Debate Team, which is headed off to another competition this weekend. For the academic year 2017-18, Kiyan and Kenji earned four bids to enter the “Tournament of Champions” — a first for any public school team in Utah. Kiyan earned a fifth bid personally and will compete in the Lincoln-Douglas category this weekend. Oh, and the team took state!

  • It is National Poetry Month. Tonight: Lisa Bickmore. We shared just a portion of a much longer interview we had with Bickmore in which she also shared the work of poets she’s currently reading. Use this player to hear it all:

  • The Healing Power of Storytelling with Giuliana Serena of The Bee and Kevin Kling, an author, playwright and teller of tall tales who keynote the Mountain West Arts Conference next month.

    • Thursday, May 10: Mountain West Arts Conference, 8a-5p, Utah Cultural Celebration Center, 1355 W. 3100 S., WVC. Serena will lead the opening plenary session, Flashes of Inspiration, from 9:00-10:00 a.m., while Kling’s keynote will run from 1:45-2:45 p.m. (separate tickets for the conference luncheon/keynote may be purchased here).
    • The Bee // Wonder Years is coming up Thursday, May 10, @ Metro Music Hall. Tickets go on sale Thursday, April 26, at 10:00 a.m. Tonight’s stories from The Bee included;
