The Salt Lake Tribune is seeking folks to join its Editorial Board. The Trib's George Pyle shares his experience and the nonprofit paper's need for more diverse voices. Pyle has been an editorial writer, columnist and blogger for The Tribune's Opinion Section since 2002.

  • APPLY: Join The Tribune’s editorial board: "The Salt Lake Tribune is searching for a community member to join its editorial board. As a nonprofit news organization, we are committed to publishing journalism that’s more reflective of our community and that builds understanding. One of the ways we try to do this is through the editorial board, a small group that meets weekly to discuss Utah’s most pressing issues and provide a longer view on where we’re headed. Or where Utah should be headed. We’re looking to expand the board as we work to better reflect the communities we seek to serve. We will welcome a volunteer (or two!) who is eager to participate in a conversation about what’s important to Utahns." To apply, complete this form by April 30.

  • Trib's Voices Program: "The Salt Lake Tribune is committed to creating a space where Utahns can share ideas, perspectives and solutions that move our state forward. We rely on your contributions to do this. While we encourage Utahns from all walks of life to submit, we want to ensure that submissions help us reach our goals to strengthen civic discourse, fight polarization and solve problems. We welcome ideas in multiple formats and will consider essays, illustrations, videos and other proposals."

RadioACTive shares a message from Rev. Gustavo A. Vidal, St. Rose of Lima Parish in Layton, who was en route to Rome when the Vatican announced Pope Francis' death. The Vatican says the first-ever Jubilee for Teenagers, scheduled for this weekend, will proceed with adjustments, including the postponement of the canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis.

  • April 22: According to Catholic News Agency: "The College of Cardinals will begin meetings, called general congregations, on April 22 to plan the papal funeral and to make decisions related to the governance of the Church and the running of the Vatican during the sede vacante, or period without a pope."

Poets Afia and Jamera of SoulCity Open Mic, "a sanctuary for fearless creatives — a space to ignite connection, honor authenticity, and let the heartbeat of the city be heard."

  • April 25: SoulCity Open Mic, featuring RJ Walker, 7:00-10:00 p.m. at CityHome Collective, 645 E. South Temple, SLC. "The mic returns, the energy rises, and SoulCity is calling you back. We’re bringing the city together again for a night where vulnerability meets boldness, and community becomes art. This isn’t just an open mic—it’s a movement, and this month’s feature is pure fire: RJ Walker—a poetic force of nature whose words hit deep and linger long after the mic drops. Known for raw, emotionally charged performances, RJ doesn’t just perform—he transforms the room. Want to perform? Arrive early—sign-ups are first come, first served. One piece or 5 minutes max. Respect the mic. Vibes all night by @djadamantium."
