Get More Local, More Vocal with Tonight's Guests

Rallies & Resources Spotlight (full list here):

  • Apr 4: Guns to Gardens Discussion and Demonstration | 12-3:30 PM @ Nuh Eevaat Garden, east of Pioneer Memorial Theatre, University of Utah. Nancy Halden of the Gun Violence Prevention Center of Utah explains this unique event: "A live forge demonstration featuring a skilled blacksmith transforming surrendered firearms into functional garden tools." Look for a Guns to Gardens collection event Saturday, June 13, at the Episcopal Diocese, 75 S 200 E, SLC.

  • Apr 9-10: Arms Around America | 7:30 PM @ Kingsbury Hall, SLC. Dan Froot, of his eponymous L.A.-based theater group, joins the show to talk about AAA, which is based on stories of families whose lives have been shaped by guns. Book-length oral histories of families in South Florida, Western Montana, and Southern California were transformed into audio dramas that became a podcast and eventually a live show. For tickets, visit utahpresents.org/events/arms.

    • Kitchen Table: Following each performance, audience members are invited to a "kitchen table" discussion with subject matter experts from all sides of these issues. The discussions are moderated on Thursday by Dr. Kurt Michael and on Friday by Dr. Aaron Fischer.

    • Apr 29: Ethics Explored at the Intersection of Arts & Health | 12-1 PM online via Osher Lunch & Learn Lecture Series. Facilitated by Gretchen Case from the Center for Health Ethics, Arts, and Humanities and Dan Froot of Dan Froot & Company, this discussion will focus on the ethical questions that arise when telling stories publicly that involve emotionally difficult or traumatic experiences. Medical providers often share stories from their clinical work to explore or illustrate critical issues, and the ethical conundrums associated with talking about medical encounters are well-known. How do you tell a story, on the stage or the page, that respects privacy and avoids re-traumatization, but still has the desired impact on your audience?" Registration is FREE but required.
