Sundance 2025 Documentary Premiere of Sly LIVES aka The Burden of Black Genius

Joseph Patel Academy award winning producer of Summer of Soul (When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) which won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature in 2022 where he partnered up with Ahmir Questlove Thompson in his directorial debut.

Sly LIVES aka The Burden of Black Genius Debuting in the 2025 Sundance Premieres category. All shows at Sundance are currently SOLDOUT. The documentary is an examination of the life and legacy of Sly & The Family Stone — the groundbreaking band led by the charismatic and enigmatic Sly Stone — captures the band’s rise, reign, and subsequent fadeout while shedding light on the unseen burden that comes with success for Black artists in America.
