Nick @ 6 Heads to the Theatre

Salt Lake City is known for its theatre scene, from touring Broadway Productions to edgy street theatre. Tonight, Nick and Lara preview two productions, one of them a world premiere:

  • Jan. 30–Feb. 8: Voodoo Theatre Co. Presents Grasmere @ Studio 5400, Mid Valley Performing Arts Center, Taylorsville. Guests: Actors LaToya Cameron (Dorothy), Carleton Bluford (William), and Tyson Baker (Samuel). For $10 off, use promo code KRCL when you get your tickets.

    • ABOUT: William Wordsworth and his sister, Dorothy, lived in the lovely seclusion of the Lake District for years until one day, Mary Hutchinson arrived, and their lives changed forever. Grasmere is not a fact; it is a meditation on history, unfolding over the course of one year. Samuel Coleridge adds danger as the visiting friend, who is trying desperately to finish his new epic poem about a wedding guest and an albatross. The four learn about each other as their lives begin to unravel – Samuel’s addictions take hold, William falls in love with Mary, and Dorothy finds herself experiencing emotions she can’t begin to describe.

  • Feb. 4–March 1: Salt Lake Acting Co. Presents the World Premiere of Sunny in the Dark @ SLAC, 168 W 500 N, SLC. Guests: Playwright Elaine Jarvick, Director Marion Markham, and Actors CoCo May Berwald (Sunny), Andra Harbold (Elise), Paul Mulder (Tom), Micki Martinez (AJ), and Matthew Ivan Bennett (The Astrophysicist).

    • ABOUT: 15-year-old Sunny wonders about the universe, God, and her own creation story. When a DNA test reveals a complicated truth, her journey gets... well... complicated. Sunny in the Dark is a play about mysteries, yearnings, and lies. Oh, and astrophysics!
