Rallies & Resources Spotlight (full list here):

  • ONGOING: Kati Christensen, aka MrsCactusVibes, is still exploiting the TikTok algorithm, dancing to pay off school lunch deficits (totalling $3.6M in Utah), as another school year starts. All you have to do is watch, like and do all the things to help feed the kids. By the way, Kati has received official nonprofit status for her work. Stay tuned for a website she will launch for her ongoing fight against school lunch deficits. Maybe she should be City Weekly's Best Utahn or Best Radical — just sayin'.

  • Aug. 22-24: Adult Field Day | Park City. Anthony Gerson (Supreme Overlord of Shenanigans) and Brooks Conway (Captain of the Hype Train) discuss massive inflatable challenges, wild obstacle courses, high-energy relay races, and team competitions scheduled for this 21+ weekend. For a full schedule, click here.

  • Sept. 1: Fascist Fighter Fun Run | 10 AM @ Liberty Park, 1300 S 600 E, SLC. Sarah Buck of Salt Lake Indivisible explains this unique event, registration for which is a donation to either Comunidades Unidades or Utahns Against Hunger

    • SLI's RULES OF THE RUN: You don’t have to be an athlete to participate. You can go at your own pace. Bring family, friends and neighbors to join you or cheer you on. On-site registration available day-of at 9:30 AM (cash and electronic payments accepted).

    • Participants dress up as a “fascist fighter” from history, the contemporary era, or from literature and movies. Make a sign that connects your costume and message to the current fascists trying to unravel our democratic system of governance. Participate in a creative physical “blow” to fascism at the finish line.

    • Please be culturally respectful in your costume choices. No weapons of any kind.

  • Sept. 10: Rose Park Wake the Lake Mural Debut | Details TBD. SLC Arts Council's Siri Vlasic stops by with artist Trevor Dahl.

Roundtable Tuesday: Mercy or Justice?

Murdered in 1986, Maurine Hunsaker's family has been waiting decades for justice. Her killer has exhausted all appeals, and Utah has set an execution date of Sept. 5. Roundtable Tuesday talks with Abraham J. Bonowitz of Death Penalty Action, which wants the Beehive State to set an example and grant mercy. Fellow panelists include: Michelle Beasley, coordinator, Utah Against the Death Penalty; Jennifer Herron, birth-daughter of Maurine Hunsaker; Randy Gardner, whose brother was executed by Utah in 2010; and Terri Steinberg, whose son is now off death row.
