Voices Amplified Panel Discussion: Tech Clash in Class

On November 11, the U's John R. Park Debate Society and partners are set to hold the first annual Great Campus Debate. Students from across campus will be able to present arguments that help unpack the resolution: generative AI does more harm than good. Voices Amplified Reporter Caitlyn Homola speaks with Luca  Luca DiGregorio, who recently wrote about the issue for The Daily Utah Chronicle, and UofU Journalism Professor Marcie Young-Cancio.

KRCL History Project: DJ Maggie Laun, Women Aloud & This Feminine Position

Voices Amplified's Addison Burnsed talks with Maggie Laun, whose time at the station dates back to KRCL's early days. Laun was an office manager, a grant writer, a programmer, a DJ, and more. Laun says one of her proudest accomplishments was working with other women DJs and programmers to produce 50+ consecutive hours of what they called Women Aloud. KRCL was welcoming and supportive of women DJs and musicians — a direct line to today's Women Who Rock with Eugenie.

  • "We travelled and went to different radio conferences, and we were in Santa Cruz, and I started meeting women that were organizing women," Laun recalls. "Our main goal was to teach women how to use all of the equipment so we could create our own public affairs. We brought in [women] programmers from Berkley to teach us, and it was basically go ahead and get the feedback, make a mistake. So we had all sorts of classes for women programming, and then when we were finally ready to do Women Aloud. We did 53 hours of just women."

Let Me Explain: LOVE is Headed to UMFA

A weekly 411 on something you may have heard about but need more information on. Tonight, the famous LOVE sculpture, which the University of Utah is reportedly paying $4.5 million to bring a 12-by-12-by-6-foot version to the Utah Museum of Fine Arts and unveil on Valentine's Day 2026.

  • Cost breakdown: $4.5 million, $2.5 million provided by donors, remaining $2 million is covered by state public art funding.
  • Other LOVEs: BYU bought a smaller one last year. There are 86 iterations of the sculpture, but only 9 are as large as the one headed to the U.
