The International Rescue Committee provides opportunities for refugees, asylees, victims of human trafficking, survivors of torture, and other immigrants to thrive in America. In Salt Lake City and other offices across the country, the IRC helps them to rebuild their lives. Since opening its doors in 1994, the IRC in Salt Lake City has resettled over 13,000 refugees and provided life-changing services to thousands more in the Beehive State. But executive orders and ICE immigration raids are putting a strain on the community. To find out more, including ways you can get involved, RadioACTive spoke with:
Danny Beus, @ircsaltlakecity executive director, talks about immigration, especially about the Trump Admin's ending of status for our Afghan allies, while bringing Afrikaners to the US.
Emily Park from Spice Kitchen Incubator, an @ircsaltlakecity program supporting refugee, immigrant, and low-to-moderate income entrepreneurs as they build food businesses.
Spice Kitchen graduate Olivia Sessi, who graduated from the Spice Kitchen Incubator program last year. She now owns and operates Kente Café, featuring a mix of West African and American cuisine. The film follows Afghan native Alishah Farhang as he coaches a team of passionate and hardworking young adults in the Afghan village of Bamyan. The story also captures the collapse of the Afghan government that led to the displacement of over 270,000 Afghans, hundreds of whom are now resettled in Salt Lake City, Utah."
All ticket sales and donations will directly support the local work of the IRC in Utah to continue its vital efforts to assist refugee and new American families as they rebuild their lives in our community.
