Federal Budget Cuts Place YWCA Services at Risk

Federal budget cuts have placed critical services at risk at the YWCA of Utah, a nonprofit that has provided educational and employment classes for women, teen clubs, community dialogue groups to discuss race relations, an early education center, a youth resource center, and aquatics programming over the last 118 years in SLC. Chief Executive Officer Liz Owens shares the Y’s new and improved business model and the work to fill a large budget hole.

  • Sept. 5: YWCA 36th Annual LeaderLuncheon | 11-2 PM | Grand America, 555 S Main St, SLC. "LeaderLuncheon is one of Salt Lake City’s most powerful and inspiring annual events. It’s a vital fundraiser for YWCA Utah and a celebration of women’s strength, leadership, and the collective power we hold when we rise as one. The funds raised make our life-saving work possible—we truly can’t do it without you. LeaderLuncheon will honor this year’s Outstanding Achievement Award winners and feature keynote speaker April Hernandez-Castillo — an actor, author, and survivor whose story embodies the resilience, empowerment, and advocacy at the heart of our work. Her books will be available for purchase at the event." For tickets, click here.

  • Candy Cane Lane: It's not too early to support the YWCA's unique holiday-themed pop-up store, brought to life through the kindness of community contributions. The families in the Y's shelter and transitional housing are beginning new chapters in their lives, often with few belongings and resources. With your generosity, Candy Cane Lane allows the nonprofit to provide gifts and winter essentials during the holiday season to survivors who live at YWCA Utah.
