Try new techniques and paint new subjects in this 12-week watercolor class! We will review traditional watercolor techniques and explore alternative materials while challenging ourselves with a wide range of subject matters. Throughout the year, we will paint animals, figures, portraits, still-lifes, landscapes, seascapes, and urban scenes. This term, on-going students will have the opportunity to choose their own subject matter and focus on developing their own artistic voice. Clay is the way! Break away from the hardness of teen life and have fun with soft and squishy clay. Newbys and those familiar with clay can expect to have plenty of creative freedom. Our experienced instructor (a high school teacher and professional artist) will guide them in their journey. This class will offer teens the chance to learn the basics of throwing on a potter’s wheel and hand-building for those who prefer it. Topics may include, coiling, pinching, and building methods for slab. Wheel lessons will cover techniques in centering, dropping the hole, and raising the walls. This class dives into the Printmaking Method of Screen Printing. In this class we will learn techniques of drawing fluid, vinyl stencil, drawing negatives and digital negatives for photo emulsion. Art Theory, technique, history, color theory, composition, and structure. Regardless of the scale you are working, or the subject that you are abstracting, our large studio is the perfect venue for abstract painting. Oil paint, acrylic paint, house paint, encaustic, oil sticks, crayons, pastels, watercolor and collage are materials I work with. I work on canvas, heavy paper, plastics, wood and metal. I mostly use white hog bristle brushes, house painting brushes, synthetic brushes, paint knives and scrapers. I will be working on stretched canvas and hardboard panels.
